New Invention: Chitosan derivatives, for removal of toxic metal ions (M+N from wastewater: an industrial application

An inventor from Saudi Arabia presented at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva 2014 the invention: “Chitosan derivatives, for removal of toxic metal ions (M+N) from wastewater: an industrial application”.

The invention considers a new/linked Thiazolidinone Chitosan Dibenzo Crown Ether, CTdBE, as adsorbent of toxic heavy metals. CTdBE explored a high adsorption capacity Pd2+ and Hg2+. In addition, CTdBE showed high adsorption selectivity for Hg2+ when Pb2+ is in coexistence. The coefficients of adsorption selectivity of TCdBE for these metal ions are KHg2+/Pb2+=16.27 and KHg2+ /Pb2+=19.92 at pH4 and pH6 respectively. The reusability tests for TCdBE for Pb2+ as an example, showed that complete recovery of the ion was possible after 10 times uses better than chitosan itself (CTS).

The innovation is a portable water filtration system which uses a new cross-linked Thiazolidinone Chitosan Dibenzo Crown Ether, CTdBE, to provide enough potable water when access to clean water is typically unavailable. The innovation is a filtration system for heavy metal detoxification of both industrial waste water and water obtained from desalination sewage process; the system is recyclable that it could be washed with 0.1 NaOH and reused up to 10 times.

The inventor is interested in commercialization of its already patented invention and is seeking appropriate interested manufacturer. European Patent Registration and Consulting Services GmbH has made direct contact with the inventor and has access to information about the invention directly from the inventor.
