New Invention: Cricoid pressure monitor
Inventors from Saudi Arabia presented at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva 2014 the invention: “Cricoid pressure monitor”.
Cricoid pressure is a technique that is applied during emergency endotracheal intubation, used to either prevent regurgitations, or to assist with visualization of the glottis by a physician attempting intubation. The technique involves the application of pressure to the cricoid cartilage of the neck, cricoid force grater than 40 N can compromise airway patency and make tracheal intubation difficult and also harm the soft tissue around trachea especially when done by inexperienced physician.
Cricoid pressure monitor will apply a scale for the pressure required to prevent regurgitation and assist with visualization of the glottis, it will alarm when the pressure exits 30 N.
This invention has a potential for broad international application in health care.
