New Invention: Shackle-less padlock

An inventor from Israel presented at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva 2014 the invention: “Shackle-less padlock”.

The invention consists of a padlock with design which offers significant advantages over existing padlock designs:

• It has no shackle, thereby saving the costs of a significant element over-all cost of the lock;
• The upper surface of the hasps is inclined, so the actual force delivered by a strike of a heavy hammer will be reduced by 50% if the incline angle is 45º or even by a higher percentage if the incline angle is steeper.

Actual locking is accomplished by the locking horns and ribs, which fit into designated recesses in the hasps and, together with the lock body, prevent any movement of the door in any direction (in/out and sideways). The lock body is secured in place by a locking cam that fits into designated recesses inside the hasps (not visible). The cam may be fitted to a cylinder lock by any manufacturer.
