EPO OFFICIAL FEES /DESIGNATION FEE, EXAMINATION FEE AND RENEWAL FEE DEADLINES FOR PAYMENT WHEN FILING ONE EUROPEAN PATENT APPLICATION

According to the regulations of the European Patent Convention (EPC), related to filing European patent application , next to payment of the Filing, Search and Claims fee are also to be paid the
Designation fee, Examination fee and Renewal fees.
The examination fee actually amounts 1.915,- EUR and is due when the request for examination is filed. Since the latter is contained in the request for grant form (EPO Form 1001), the examination fee is to be paid straight away on the European patent application's filing date if the application is filed with included request for examination in the EPO Form 1001.
In case the request for examination is not put immediately when filing European Patent Application with the Form 1001, than this fee may be paid latest within six months of the date on which the European Patent Bulletin mentions the publication of the European search report.
The designation fee actually amounts 685,- EUR and falls due upon publication of the mention of the European search report. It may be paid within six months of the mentioned date of publication.
Renewal fees
Renewal fees for a European patent application in respect of the coming year are due on the last day of the month containing the anniversary of the European patent application's date of filing. This fees are to be paid starting from the third year for each year of the further duration of the European patent registration procedure before EPO.
The renewal fee in respect of the third year actually amounts 690,- EUR and may be paid up to six months before it falls due. All other renewal fees may not be validly paid more than three months before they fall due.
